How often to get tested
MSM
Every 3 months
If you have multiple partners — get tested every 3 months. Minimum — once a year. Even if nothing bothers you. Many STIs have no symptoms.

What a standard test includes
Chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, HIV. For MSM — swabs from throat, genitals, and anus. Hepatitis B and C — ask separately (especially if you are from Central Asia — prevalence is higher there).

free
What is PrEP
A pill that prevents HIV infection. Free at any NHS sexual health clinic. No GP needed, no passport needed. Can be taken daily or "on demand" (event-based — 2-24 hours before sex). From 2026 — new injectable PrEP (CAB-LA).

If you had unprotected sex
PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) must be started within 72 hours. The sooner — the more effective. Go to the nearest sexual health clinic or A&E (emergency department). Free.

Treatment is free for everyone
HIV treatment is free for everyone in the UK — even without status, even without documents. This is an exception to NHS rules. 1 pill a day. Normal life expectancy.
U=U
Undetectable = Untransmittable
If you take treatment and your viral load is undetectable — you CANNOT pass HIV to a partner. This is a scientific fact confirmed by major studies.

Medical data is protected by law. The Home Office does not have access to your GP or clinic records. Your HIV status is confidential. Full stop.
